The site has it's very own Texas Holdem table which has members playing against each other 24/7! .. MLB Gameday audio only for the community. A live chat room, fantasy leagues with the winner landing up to 100 dollars in prizes. We also have our own FREE Baseball draft kit for our UM members, as well as an upcomming Football draft kit. We run our own monthly MILB prospect list. But most importantly .. The UM has grown into a community of sports friends. So jump in and, join the UM today! |

Halladay could make an interesting push but there's no doubt in my mind that the AL Cy Young right now is Cliff Lee. Great winning percentage, ERA, WHIP, K/BB, everything you could ask for. Lee would need a total meltdown in his last seven or so starts to lose. |
Halladay: 191 IP, 14-9, 159 K, 2.64 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, .234 BAA, 8 CG, 2 SHO
Lee: 170.2 IP, 17-2, 2.43 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, .249 BAA, 3 CG, 1 SHO
This is much closer than people think. Halladay's record in 8 CGs is 5-3. He's been hard done by lack of offense...

Yeah but if Lee gets 20 wins you know how they're gonna end up voting. _________________

| Unless Halladay runs the table and gets 3 more CG wins, I can't see the voters not taking Lee as longas he reaches 20 wins.BTW i'm a huge Halladay backer.

| The Dodgers aquired crafty veteran Gregg Maddox from the Padres after he cleared waivers. Nice move with Penny being out and Kershaw getting up in innings. This is going to be some pennant race in the West .. Both Arizona and LA are heating up.

| George Sherrill went on the DL today. Jim Johnson is first in line for some save chances.

Here's some useless info I'd like to share (from Daily Edge)
"The Cubs pitching staff has been one the best at finishing off hitters in two-strike counts, and they have gotten even tougher during their 11-4 August run. Cub hurlers have held opponents to a dismal .203 on base percentage in two-strike situations this month, lowest in the majors and far below the .265 league average. With a runner in scoring position and two strikes, Cubs pitchers really lock the door, allowing only a .159 OBP so far in August (league average is .271). Strikeouts are the key. Opponents have whiffed on 43 percent of plate appearances reaching two strikes this month."
"Fastballs up-and-in are some of the most difficult pitches for hitters, with only a .222 league batting average. The best team versus high-inside heat this season is Texas, which has batted .288 and slugged .500. With a .455 average, Texas shortstop Michael Young is the second best hitter in the majors on high-and-tight fastballs."

I remember saying that I thought Sizemore was the best leadoff hitter in Baseball .. and I got some flack for that ... I feel a bit vindicated right now ... Fellas, take a look at this guys numbers.
2008: .272, 30 HR, 86 RBI's, 80 Runs, 30 SB's, 30 Doubles and ranked 12th in OBS.
He may be a leadoff 40/40 hitter this season and have over 110 RBI's in the 1 hole ... I'd like to say he's having the year of his life .... But he's only 25.

His run total is way down... because of VMart and Hafner.
He'd be better served batting 3rd right now... but I guess the tribe have nobody to bat lead-off besides him. _________________

On a horrible team at that. Absolutely amazing.
And I agree with poon. I think this is the last year we see him leading off the entire season. His bat is more valuable in the three hole assuming someone can set the table. _________________ Signatures are for pussies.

I don't think they will ever move him from the leadoff position while he has the ability to cause as much havoc as he does on the base paths. He's a special player whom can beat you badley in every way possible .. Maybe as he gets older you move him to the meat of the order ... But if you move him to the 3 hole now and your losing 30+ stolen bases a year. I don't see them doing it.

Upton's been batting 3rd for the Rays all year (except for the past few weeks since Crawford+Longoria's injuries) and he's still got 36 stolen bases. Batting 3rd and stealing bases aren't mutually exclusive. _________________

Yeah I hear what you are saying Biz and I agree with poon on the paths. I dont think that is horribly valuable to a team in the grand scheme of things. I think what is more important is getting the players who get on base into the plate.
So, in my mind it's a toss up. He is a great lead off guy who is only getting better vs. having to create someone into a leadoff man and make the team work. If he is still leading off batting third, I agree that it's pointless. _________________ Signatures are for pussies.
