So ... Normally i save everything i have on my PC to disk every 6 months. But of late I have relaxed a bit on that .. I have a good firewall/Anti Virus and I don't do much downloading .. So it's been a few years since I backed up my shit. Anyways .. On sunday .. out of no where my computer caught the single worst virus I have ever seen on the net!
In a matter of 10 min, the whole computer (Which is only 2 years old) was disabled. My only option was to run a manufacturer restore!
So, now my computer is back to it was the day i bought it ... I am glad that the PC works fine ,, BUT everything on here has been lost! ... As much as you can on a PC .. I feel violated ... I've been trying to add all my programs and data back ... but this will take many days just to get the PC back to where it was.
I am sure this ever happened to some of you guys.... PC horror stories.

| I reformat every 6 months (sometimes more). As such, I backup my data quite often. However, I have had to "System Restore" due to a virus before...and I can only imagine how much you've cried...

I am sorry and it's like losing a loved one. The good news is that storage drives are dirt cheap these days. I just bought a 500 Gig for 89.99. I just back up all my data once or twice a month and then email myself my bookmarks once a month. That pretty much covers me. I usually have a PC crash twice a year. What can I say? I like porn. _________________ Signatures are for pussies.

I lost everything the day before I started vet school. Damn computer shit the bed after I did not have it on a surge protector and there was a storm. (at least that is what I assume)
This happened the same day I got my first of 2 (so far) kidney stones.
Shitty damn week. _________________ Yankees have not won a WS with a Republican in power since Ike... We're Back Baby!!

I had to give up my two loves-- downloading music, and downloading porn-- due to constant problems for years.
I can go through horror stories, but in all honesty I can't even remember how many times I've started from scratch.
At this point there is so much trash in my registry and recurring stuff, there will never be a time when my computer runs normal again (regardless of how many times I reformat). Luckily I've been able to store stuff most times-- but I'd say I've lost it all about 3 times.
My current problem is that something happened with my computer clock where it got reset-- and in doing so it corrupted the majority of my programs... and it also makes it so I can't install a lot of new programs. No Windows Media Player, iTunes, Party Poker, Image Viewers, and many other things-- all of which pop up with computer time errors or simply freeze up my computer instantly.
Anyway I feel your pain Biz, and it seriously has me looking at an Apple laptop as my next computer because I'm sick of the problems (even if they are self-inflicted). _________________

I try to reformat every 6 months too. I have a 500GB external HD that I save all my music, porn and other important things to.
the annoying thing? I ahve not found an easy way to auto backup certain folders to that HD. does anyone know a way? I know Apple has a way, I think their OS can automatically backup data to a HD periodically. Is there a way on a PC? Would love to stop having to manually remember to copy all my picture folders to the external HD. That is a pain
PS: sorry Biz! hope you are up and running in no time! _________________
