This new russian league will end up giving fantasy league managers an ultzer. This is the first major sport to have competition between a rival league in a long time. I began to pay attention to it's presence while doing my fantasy league drafts. You got to wonder in the next 3-4 years, how many key players are going to leave to russia .. breaking the hearts of keeper league hopefulls!

Biz if a more serious migration begins to take place,NHL teams will simply stop drafting from European countries, especially Russia.

You've already seen a reduction starting but that has more to do with a stronger developmental system in the U.S. than the KHL at this point.

Under-performing and underpaid (in their minds) young Russian NHL players are the ones at risk here.

Radulov is obviously the first. Guys like Zherdev are the most likely to follow.

However... there's no way that guys like Ovechkin and Malkin head over there. They're getting paid big bucks here anyway, and they get plenty of the glory.

Teams will be able to stop this however. They will need to lock up their stars or more important players earlier. Take Radulov for instance: 37 points in his rookie campaign followed by 58 points (including 26 goals) in his 2nd season. This following season Radulov was expected to make $984,000. He has '0' Russians on the team which is going nowhere fast. Why wouldnt you go back home where you can fetch 4-5 mill a year tax free. Now if Preds came to their sense they would've locked this guy up this offseason or even after his rookie year...

Trouble is under the CBA you can't touch an entry level contract until after the second season. Now why Radulov wasn't under a normal 3 year deal?

It would be a mistake to re-open the salary level for rookies IMO.That's the "cost certainty" factor the owners needed in so many cities.

He was or should I say he is. Radulov is under contract for this upcoming season yet he bolted to Russia. Preds have to get some sort of compensation for it...

There is no deal with the Russian Ice Hockey Federation to get any compensation.

This is what happens when you let lawyers aka Bettman and Daly run things.
