The UM opened August 17th, 2007 as a handpicked 100 members who were asked to join for their smarts and community involvement. But the word got out that the UM neighborhood is not just your average start up community! .... Members begun jumping in from word of mouth .. and now the UM stands at 300+ members and over 30,000 posts and growing!
The site has it's very own Texas Holdem table which has members playing against each other 24/7! .. MLB Gameday audio only for the community. A live chat room, fantasy leagues with the winner landing up to 100 dollars in prizes. We also have our own FREE Baseball draft kit for our UM members, as well as an upcomming Football draft kit. We run our own monthly MILB prospect list. But most importantly .. The UM has grown into a community of sports friends. So jump in and, join the UM today! |

I have been waiting for some months now to present to you the ‘Neighborhood Yard sale Center’ (NYC) for you abbreviation fans. But I had to wait as this is an idea that can only be done with a good standings base membership.
We all have things which we no longer have any interest in around the house which may be useful or interesting to someone else. (Some people throw together a yard sale to sell off those items) but we on the other hand will send them over to the NYC!
The base idea is to create a Yard sale resource center of prizes, donated from our UM members which will be used for UM-Events, competitions and fantasy leagues. All members who donate an item to the NYC will be eligible for any NYC runned events.
The winner of any of the events will choose something from our Yard sale resource center which the person who owns it will send to that person. This will open us to up a bunch of new idea’s such as Yard sale Leagues, Poker tourneys with prizes to the winner, Competitions... the list is long!
That’s the high level idea. Now let’s get a bit deeper with the steps to all of this:
Donated items:
- A list of items which can be accepted are: Anything sports related such as cards and Merchandise. Anything internet related such as a free subscription or an internet prize, anything games or electronics (That are not that big, keep in mind shipping) Gift certificates of any kind. Collectables. Anything that you are unsure of, send me a PM and I will let you know.
- If you have something that you would want to add to the NYC, send me a PM or email. I will look over all of the NYC items and put them into 2 categories of small and big. If accepted, they will go on the NYC board for all to view and you will now be eligible for all competitions that include the NYC.
- If your item gets picked, you will be allowed to stay in the NYC competitions for an additional year without adding anything new.
Who is eligible:
This will be determined by me. ‘Very new members’ as in the dude with 3 posts who came in 4 days ago will not be accepted. This is not a new membership recruiting tool, this for geared towards the members who are here and want to add a little something to the neighborhood. If you are unsure if you are eligible, send me a PM.
When items are won:
- Similar to E-bay if someone chooses your item from the list, you and that person will coordinate through me the details of sending over the item. There will be a guide line I will post on what the rules are for this.
The idea of this is to try and create a board of items which will not affect the person giving the item away. Meaning the UM is not expecting anyone to donate a 200 dollar gift certificate to Walmart. Anything that would be cool and useful even if it’s value was 5-10 dollars is great! .. I’m hoping that the idea is to give back a little to the community which will bring some added fun. If you want to donate something to the NYC which is big … that’s great too! .. it will go into the ‘big catergory’ and you will be eligible for all things which have those as the prize.
For now while I work up some of the forms and details … If you have something that you want to add to the Yardsale resource center, send me a PM with the details and will will go over it … or if you have any additional questions, send me a PM. The plan is to take the next few months to create the NYC .. and then begin to run some fantasy leagues and competitions from it.
