The UM opened August 17th, 2007 as a handpicked 100 members who were asked to join for their smarts and community involvement. But the word got out that the UM neighborhood is not just your average start up community! .... Members begun jumping in from word of mouth .. and now the UM stands at 300+ members and over 30,000 posts and growing!
The site has it's very own Texas Holdem table which has members playing against each other 24/7! .. MLB Gameday audio only for the community. A live chat room, fantasy leagues with the winner landing up to 100 dollars in prizes. We also have our own FREE Baseball draft kit for our UM members, as well as an upcomming Football draft kit. We run our own monthly MILB prospect list. But most importantly .. The UM has grown into a community of sports friends. So jump in and, join the UM today! |

Not currently.. but i will be upgrading this forum to 3.0 which comes out in the next 2 months.. which rids away with pre-modules and allows me more functionality .. including real sub boards, recent topics to the right etc ...
Once I am able to do that ... I will 100% add that!

The first few months, I spent a ton of time on the admin stuff, but i got it down pact now ... Their isnt to much left I can change or do with this 2.0... until the migration. then I can pimp my forum.

So is there a reason you gradually are upgrading? Is it more expensive the other way or was this a learning process for you?

The site that hosts this forum as well as created the templates are upgrading it to 3 ... Which means anyone using their product will be forced to upgrade eventualy as well ... it's a solid upgrade. their are 50 new features not on here now which will be on it ... and some of them are simply fantastic ... but most importantly it is the internal design ...
right now their are modules which are set by this company which cannot be changed. many of those are on the forum side... (I have more flexability on the portal to make modifications) with this new upgrade, I will now have full manueverability to change the forums as i see fit ... ala if i want to add a recent topics i can ..
currently their are hacks and codes i can add to add a recent topics, and or some of the other features i want ... but they unfortunatley will look homemade.
So, it's not at all about money .. the only features that cost money in the UM is the chatroom and the domian name. and it's not about skill set, at this point i can do most codings ... it's the flexability i have through the site which owns/hosts this forum template.

| If the chat costs money, why not switch to a free version of a normal chat? I know there are some out there...atleast there were when I was looking a year or so back.

Strange, I use shoutbox on "another" website and know many that utilize it as well,,,
I pay zero for it,,,,
Short of some useless admin functions, I can't imagine how or why you did or did not get roped in paying for shoutbox,,
Just call me curious)

If you use their generic version .. where you dont have to log in and anyone can put any name in and post .. then yeah it's free ... But how many guys are going to go on their as GUEST or use someone elses name and make the area silly? when you go into the chatroom now ... you know whos online .. and you have to log in.. thats the way it should be ..
It's not expensive anyhoot.
