As expected the Lightning are shopping Jussi Jokinen, Michel Ouelete, and Jason Ward to get under the salary cap which their off-season moves sees them about 3 million over the cap.Jokinen would be an excellent addition for a team like Vancoucer, Minnesota, or even the Oilers.Look for teams in the east like Ottawa,Boston, and the Islanders to make a pitch as well.

I think Oilers will make a run at Jokinen. Sanderson hasn't been offered a contract yet and they need help at LW (Penner, Nilsson and Glencross)...

08 salaries:
Jussi Jokinen - 1.875 mill (cap hit of 1.812 mill)
Michael Quellet - 1.300 mill (cap hit of 1.250 mill)
Jason Ward - 0.700 mill (cap hit of 0.675 mill)

No doubt about the Oilers interest.Last season they were dynamite in shootouts and Jokinen excels in that area.

Finally moved some salary but not enough.Meszaros was asking more than Ottawa was willing to pay. Gives the Senators some decent depth at defense as well in Kuba and Picard.

With Meszaros wanting $5million a season the Lightning are still over the salary cap.

If anything Tampa Bay is worse off. Kuba and Picard's combined 08/09 salaries are 3.8 mill - Meszaros is RFA and asking for 5 mill. If they sign Meszaros to a long term deal that is heavily back-loaded, for instance:
08/09 - 2 mill
09/10 - 4 mill
10/11 - 5 mill
11/12 - 7 mill

^^^ something along those lines, the cap hit would still average-out those salaries. So Meszaros' salary would be 2 mill for this season but salary cap hit would be the average salary per season (4 mill lets say).

They also gave up next year's 1st rounder, ouch.

Sources add that Meszaros is expected to sign a six-year contract with the Lightning averaging $4 million a season.

The new owners remind me of fantasy players run amok. I'm sure they are going to make Brian Lawton's life a living hell. You better believe that NHL VP Daly is going to having a chat with them regarding their business model. Hell I'm shocked Brian Burke hasn't found a microphone to decry how wasteful they Lightning are being.
