There's been a lot of discussion as to which team would win if they faced off. I think it would really be close, what do you guys think?

1992 USA Olympic Basketball team:

PG John Stockton
PG Magic Johnson
SG Clyde Drexler
SG Michael Jordan
SF Larry Bird
SF Chris Mullin
SF Scottie Pippen
PF Karl Malone
PF Christian Laettner
PF Charles Barkley
C Patrick Ewing
C David Robinson

2008 USA Olympic Basketball team:

PG Chris Paul
PG Deron Williams
PG Jason Kidd
SG Kobe Bryant
SG Dwyane Wade
SG Michael Redd
SF Lebron James
SF Carmelo Anthony
SF Tayshaun Prince
PF Carlos Boozer
PF Chris Bosh
C Dwight Howard

I think the Dream Team has the edge thanks to their size, but you can't discount the athleticism of some of the members of the Redeem Team.

The Dream Team would win hands down.Physically they would be far more dominant, and the Redeem team doesn't have Bird, Jordan, and Magic easily the top 3 players in the history of the game.
Head to head i would say Dream Team 114 Redeem Team 101.

Dream Team easily. They have a clear edge at every position unless you think LeBron is better than Larry Bird.

Yes Magic and Bird were amazing but they were at the end of their careers. Magic was 33 and Bird 36. No way a 36 year old Bird completely shuts down a younger, nimbler guard like D-Wade. Same goes with Magic and someone like Chris Paul.

By the time they are done I think Kobe and Lebron will be as highly regard as Bird and Magic, and during this timeframe they are younger.

No one on the Redeem Team but Kidd is past their prime. That's part of the reason I think they could give the Dream Team a good fight.

Of course, I don't know how they would stop Malone and Ewing, which is why I think the Dream Team has the slight edge, but not as much as everyone would think.

To break it down, the starting lineups would look something like this:

Dream Team
PG Johnson
SG Jordan
SF Bird
PF Malone
C Ewing

Redeem Team
PG Paul
SG Bryant
SF Wade
PF James
C Howard

Really it's not a terrible mismatch...

Oh and Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain scowl at you calling Bird and Magic better than them.

Sorry but Wilt and Russell were not in the same class as the big 3.Russell was a defender, his offense was not tremendous.Wilt didn't have the longevity to challenge any of them either.

As for the age factors, well older is generally wiser. Chris Paul would have been ineffective against the Dream Team starters.Firstly he wouldn't have had Magic on him at all.Chris Paul meet Mr Jordan 9X all NBA Defensive player.Magic would have used his bigger body on Kobe.Oh and off the bench comes John Stockton with his 5x second team defensive numbers( only because he played in the Jordan era) along with being the best stealer in the history of the game.

The Mailman on Lebron would have been fun to watch as well.Bird knew his limitations and was good enough defensively to be a 3x second team defensive player.

The real fun would be watching Ewing vs Howard.Ewing was in his prime and would have made rebounding a nightmare for Howard.Sorry but from top to bottom i'll take the Dream Team.

I agree with everything you said except for the Ewing part. He just disappeared in big games. Over and over again David Robinson or Hakeem would outrebound, muscle, and outscore him. Hell Rick Smits (sp?) had Ewing's number.

We forget how ridiculous Jordan was. Magic was 6'9" and strong as hell. Bird only missed when people were starting to realize he really was the second coming. And the Stockton/Malone pick and roll was unstoppable.

I really like these new guys but they wouldn't hang.

And yes I used to have to walk to school uphill in the snow every day.....

See the thing is, obviously if we look at where the Dream Team ended up in history then they have the edge.

But we still don't know where the members of this team will end up. I'm especially talking about Paul, Lebron, and Howard who are all very young but could end up being at the top of the top when they're all done.

But that's why the only way to find out the answer is to send the Redeem Team back to 1992 and have the two squads battle it out.

Skill wise you can make the case that this years olympic team is up to par with the old dream team. But my question is which players have the capability and know how to guard the inside guys like Karl Malone Charles Barkley Patrick Ewing and David Robinson? .. cause from the looks of it those matchups fall to Tayshawn Prince, Chris Bosh, Carlos Boozer and Dwight Howard.

That being the case ,, all i can say is ... Game Over.

Final Score:
1992 Team: 114
2008 team: 102

MVP: Karl Malone 26 Points 17 Rebounds

I'll go as far as saying that Wilt is as great as Michael Jordan. They had to change the rules because of Wilt's dominance. Line ball for me if I had to pick a greatest basketball player ever.

Oh and not to drift of the topic. Dream Team could beat the 08 team, that team is just stacked top to bottom.
