The genius that is JP Richardi, swung a deal today for noted infielder Jose Bautista. This makes the Jays instant contenders.
Actually it's only because they are not sure how long Rolen will be out.

I got really excited when I saw the title of this thread too...
This trade could be the move that moves the Jays into 3rd in the AL East?!?!
Anyone with me?

Ya know, they're not unreasonably far out of the wild card.
Red Sox
Twins -.5
Yankees -5.5
Jays -7.5
Of course, with the White Sox, Red Sox, Twins, and Rays fighting for the 2 div. wins and the wild card, its doubtful anyone else can sneak into the mix. _________________

This Blue Jay team has been completley different in every aspect since Cito Gaston took over. From personal player performances from guys like Burnett, Lind and Rios .. to the way they go about their business. If you look over this Blue Jay team, their isnt really a good reason why they arent competiting for a playoff spot. Their pitching is at the top of the league and theirs enough hitting to compete, it's ashme that Riccardi has been such a tool that he didnt want to fire his buddy when he should have been fired .. which should have been 2 years ago.

I'm excited to watch this team now.In addition to Lind, Inglett and Scutaro are just a pleasure to watch. They hustle, make plays, and most of all never give up.This last month alone i've seen at least 10 plays by John MacDonald that were unbelieveable efforts defensively.
I don't think Boston wants to see the Jays right now. They better have more than last weekend when they Jays dominated them.
The downer was the series against the Indians earlier this month.

I'm just glad that JP Ricciardi is such a terrible GM because if he was competent at all the Jays would be great...they've got the best pitcher in the AL and a lot of other good starters and a few good guys in the pen.
I just like how he's cut Reed Johnson and Frank Thomas and now no one on their team can hit homeruns and Adam Lind and Matt Stairs are starting...
The Jays will never contend with him as their GM. He was wrong about Adam Dunn and his attitude about players like him are the reason why.
He needs to go.

Johnson was no homerun machine to be sure.Thomas wasn't the answer at DH either.Lind has been awesome since getting recalled though.Thing about the Jays is they don't need to be a huge home run team. The hitters were all messed up by the previous regime.Gaston and Tenace have made it easy on the hitters now. They aren't going to the plate with so much junk in their heads.Yes you still need to move runners etc.... but the key thing is now to attack the ball hard every chance you get. They told guys like Overbay and Rios that homers aren't needed all the time.Base hits are however and now you see them not pressing for the home run ball.
I still want to see them get that big threat and hopefully that's a first basemen.Lind will make a good DH for several years.Reason i say that is because of Travis Snyder, he'll be playing OF for the Jays and he also has that big bat, which will make the lineup a lot tougher.

Lind would be better suited at LF than Snider who is DH-bound. I agree that if they can land a big bat it would preferably be 1B. Unfortunately for Jays, 09 free agency class at first base is weak. Teixeira is a free agent but that's about it.
Tony Clark
Sean Casey
Eric Hinske
Kevin Millar
Richie Sexson
Daryle Ward
Giambi will probably become a free agent too. Delgado has a mutual option.

No way does Carlos come back to Toronto.Actually with the pitching staff they have now, and should have in place for next season i can see them making a trade for a power hitting 1st baseman.
Snider has a good arm and that's why i think he'll be out in the field with Wells and Rios.Of course those two are not getting run on by anyone smart and adding Snider to that could make it absolutely stupid trying to run on any OF the Jays have.

Bautista's batting all the way up in the 2 slot today against a lefty in Lester.
Their bats continue to rake, its 9-0 Jays after 4 innings.
I hope they cool off before they play the Rays on Tuesday. _________________

| Sorry poon but feel just the opposite on that count.I hope the Jays bats go nuts.Of course the loudmouth heckler in Tampa may have something to do with that as well.

The Trop has been a lot louder lately. A few years ago you could hear him from the outfield and on TV. 2 weeks ago I had seats on the 1st base line right next to the home dugout and couldn't hear him at all. _________________

| Thankfully the Trop should be full for this series.Pitching will favor the Jays though as you get to face both Halladay and Burnett. Now for some reason the Rays have done very well against Halladay, though he is on some kind of a roll these days, and no Crawford who has been a Jays killer.Burnett has been even nastier. Will be a good series
