This is from Craig Custance who is NHL writer for The Sporting News. I 100% agree with 2 and 4. 3 is very tricky and 1 is just plain stupid... Waiting to see what Biz and Cranky will say on No1.

1. Eliminate Candian teams
2. Bring hockey to ESPN
3. European expansion
4. Tweak revenue sharing
5. ??? lol (5 is funny)

Anyways here's the whole article

He is just looking to anger people with number one. The guy is a moron and does not even make me want to comment. But I will.

1. I say that they move more teams up to Canada. I think they should they should move teams further north. I would love to see teams move from......

TB
Carolina
Florida Panthers
Phoenix
Dallas
Atlanta
Nashville

Move them to:
Hartford
Seattle
Portland
Milwaukee
Winnipeg
Halifax
Quebec City

2. Fire the commish. Hire someone who has half a clue. The TV situation in America is absolutely horrible.

3. Yeah that would make sense to have trans continental flights. That's a great way to increase revenues and keep players happy with a rival Russian league.

4. Yeah what a plan he has considering the NBA is flourishing with their current agreement. Keep everything in line with moderate growth. It helps ride the waves and keep the dollars for both countries relative.

5. Hey Craig, blow me.

As much as i would love to see a return to Canadian markets, there is simply no way that any of the 3 popular choices can sustain an NHL team for very long. The corporate base is too small in all 3 cities. However let our guy Jim Balsilie of Blackberry fame aka Research in Motion, have a franchise and you could easily get two more teams into southern Ontario one in Kitchener-Waterloo, another in Hamilton. The biggest reaction to that happening would be the Make Believes. They wouldn't get away with being mediocre anymore with choices available to the huge fan base close enough to make a serious dent.

Fire Bettman is so obvious it's painful.Only Bud Selig makes my skin crawl as much.Relocate the head office back to Montreal as well.No more U.S. lawyers "running" i mean ruining the game.

The competition committee yeaterday took a big step as well. They got those lovely side pads that goalies like Luongo love to be reduced in size as well they must be tied down now. That will help with scoring to a degree.Still would not object in this age of 6'5" goalies to seeing the width and height increased slighty on the nets.

Number 1 is retarded. There is no way in anyone's right mind that they could ever pull this off. I mean Cranky is right about the 3 popular choices, but he also was right about Balsilie.

I live in Hamilton, and last year when he put a great offer for the Nashville Predators our city was ecstatic. From signing petitions to get the team up here, to voting on the teams name.

The league would be stupid to not put a team in our area, no matter what Buffalo has to say about it. (They were one of the main reasons why the league doesn't want us to have the team)

I hope one day the league wakes up and puts a team here, we are a large city, with a HUGE sports following population.

If you eliminate canadian team the NHL would fold within 3 years. thats like eliminating ice from ice cream. confuszed ... If that guy was serious, he should be fired.

Pretty sure #1 is sarcasm:
1. Eliminate the Canadian teams. They're screwing up the economics of the league and forcing good, honest American franchises to spend money they don't have. Sure, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens sell out every game; but it's the strong Canadian dollar that is responsible for all the revenues. Everybody knows that. They can have their own league, and let the rest of us enjoy an NHL with an $11 million salary cap.

Screwing up the economics of the league?

Try the following teams

Florida
Nashville
Phoenix
Atlanta

All 4 are not worth having in the league at all. They will barely and i mean barely make money with the new floor being at 40 million a season.Again there isn't enough corporate support in any of these markets to be viable.

I really hope they pick up one of the teams that are barely going to scrape by and move it up here, it makes logical sense and the NHL is simply turning a blind eye to that fact. Logical owner for a team, population, and stadiums to boot.

Don't forget that Kitchener-Waterloo area though.Easily enough fans to support a team there also as well as the corporate support.

Yea, I am not strictly saying Hamilton, both areas could easily sustain an NHL team, and its about time they get one.

I agree with both of you guys in terms of what Ontario could support but I highly doubt the league office, Toronto, will allow that to stomp on their territory.

Actually if it went to court, both Toronto and Buffalo would lose any case based upon so-called territorial rights.

If Bettman were replaced by a real commissioner, the movement of franchises would take place.

I thought so Cranky, do you know what the exact mile or kilometre radius the territories are? I would be interested to see if Bettman would be proven wrong.

I don't recall the exact area, however i've seen on both the Score and Sportsnet, lawyers talking about this and they were all pretty convinced that the NHL would lose the case if it went to court. Now the Leafs don't have a leg to stand on simply because Kitchener/Waterloo is outside the territory, also with Hamilton they cannot claim in any way shape or form that the Leafs are not able to sustain their current market share.Where it gets interesting is Buffalo and their situation, but that is what the lawyers discussed the most and they would lose based on U.S. laws as well.

I recall that in the early 80s that Buffalo stopped Hamilton from getting a team. All of Hamilton hates Buffalo because of it, there stake on fans here is ridiculous. I don't think I have met a Sabres fan in Hamilton all the years I have lived here, it's quite funny.

When I go down to see Toronto in Buffalo there are quite the number of Canadians just going to watch hockey too, its a shame. I really hope the Sabres pick up and move shortly, that would make it a lot easier on us.
